Lillies and Hand Cream

I love the way that a stream of thought gives rise to our reality! As Mike Dooley’s  fabulous website,  www.tut.com says “thoughts create things …….. choose the good ones!”   I remember thinking that I would love to have some lilies in my living room again and made a mental note to add them to my shopping list.  And guess what  - last week a client brought me a beautiful bunch of white lilies that graced our treatment area during our Gentle Touch Reflexology course weekend and now my living room!  A few days later I was given another huge bunch of star gazer lilies that are currently looking totally amazing too.  When I walk into the lounge I am met by the heady aroma of the lilies and am reminded of how quickly our “unattached thoughts” can appear. The more needy we are, the more the barriers go up and act as a block. The more flowing they are the better. “create the desire and release the need”.

Yesterday I started doing the “behind the scenes stuff” to create a newsletter. I so enjoy writing as it is another way for me to stay in my flow!  I read somewhere about it being the "correct way" to do things is to focus on one thing at a time, however I am not sure if it is my dyslexia or just plain curiosity but my mind jumps about all over the place and so I need variety. Well variety is the spice of life!  So far today I have done a telephone consultation for a lady who has just broken up from her relationship of many years and wanted to go through the impact of that and discuss the best ways to move on with love for herself and her ex partner, I have visited a friend who’s life has taken a very significant up turn of events. It was great to hear all her news, I have done a batch of ironing(!) and written two more pages of my book. I have marked two pieces of home study, planted a plant I was given yesterday and answered ten emails.  If I was doing the same thing all the time I may go nuts, but at least I never get bored!  I was doing another phone consultation last night with a man who is feeling over whelmed about something and so I did some NLP with him over the phone.  Sometime it is the simplest things that make the biggest difference!  Try some reframing for yourself (a great NLP tool). Here’s an example that I have just used with a client who is stuck on the motorway. The motorway has had to be closed (hence he is not here for his appointment and I am writing my blog instead). If you are stuck in a traffic jam, use the time to think about the great things in your life and also experiences, things etc you would like to create in your life.. Be glad that you have time to do that, rather than being in the potential cause of the traffic jam! (Click here for more information on the NLP courses)

I am about to go into clinic to treat a client who has booked in for Hand Reflexology.  It is not often that someone books in for Hand Reflexology alone as I frequently do reflexology work on both the hands and the feet, but this lady has a phobia of anyone touching her  feet.  Her friend has been to see a reflexologist who only does feet and advised her to find someone who does hands too.  I love hand reflexology treatments and we focused on it last weekend in the Gentle Touch™ Reflexology teaching session for the students who are doing the full diploma course.  Everyone commented on how deeply relaxing it is.  I think it surprises people just how soothing and almost immediately relaxing hand treatments can be.  Even if you are just applying hand cream, then the benefits can be superb.  Imagine if every elderly person had a skilled hand reflexology treatment on a regular basis?  How much good could that do?  It is easier to reach someone’s hands rather than their feet, so can be quicker and easier to apply the treatment.  (Click here for details about Hand Reflexology).  I long for the day when hand treatments are the norm!  I probably use hand reflexology treatments (informally and on an impromptu basis) several times a week. Add to that the number of times I show my clients how to help themselves though working on their hands plus the times that I apply it for myself too!  That's alot!

Success leads to Success

Sometimes it can be challenge to know what to do next. Maybe you have lots of great ideas and do not know where to start or maybe you have too many “jobs” to do.

I have recently read a great book called “Do it tomorrow!”  I was surprised at the title however I love the principles contained in it.  The ideas are that you break jobs down into very small chunks and then only agree to do what you know can be done.  It’s core element id build on the success mentally. You set yourself up for success!  You agree with yourself what is possible. There are some great tips too like saying something like “I will just decide where to start” or “I will open one piece of post”, and lo and behold you have done some of the project or opened one if not more piece of post.  It fools your brain and you get more done!  I was recommended this book by a fabulous friend who I respect and admire. I have seen the difference it has made to me and have also recommended it to my sister too. Both of us have found it challenging and yet brilliant!  We still get side tracked but not half as mush and our efficiency has gone up too.  What’s’ more it’s fun!

I was telling another friend about it last night and said I would also send her some quotes I have collected over the years about it.

Reflexology for Babies and Children

It’s been a great baby week this week. I have heard from a few people who wanted to pass on their comments about the benefits their child has had after receiving Gentle Touch™ Reflexology treatments. Not only that but I have also had my grandson to stay too!

Some of the benefits reported recently;

1)     A 4 month old baby boy sleeps

2)     A six week old baby settles

1)     A five month old baby who would sleep from

eight pm

to

ten pm

and then be “awake” all night (just dozing and crying).  His grandmother has had been pleased with her own treatments of reflexology for the relief from migraines and rang me to ask if it might help her grandson too.  He had one treatment and that night slept from

eight thirty until three am

(when his Mummy woke him to check he was ok!). The following night he slept from eight until

four am

and then the day after from eight until

five am

.  Last week (he is now aged 6 months) he slept from

seven thirty

until

6.05 am

. I liked the fact that his Mum said “6.05”!  The extra five minutes after six o clock must have been like gold!

2)     A young baby girl of only nine weeks was crying constantly and her mum was getting desperate. She had read about reflexology in a magazine. She rang to ask if it would help her baby and I explained that I really did not know, however babies often do respond well to treatments. I said I would go through everything with her on her first visit.  She arrived looking very dishevelled and almost in a daze. She had managed to bring the baby in the car seat but had forgotten her handbag and changing bag!  Luckily my grandson had been to stay and I had some tiny nappies from Christmas when he as born.  When I first met this little girl she had bright red feet. She had her knees up against her chest and a very miserable face.  I spent a long while on the consultation and went through all the lines of possibility with her Mother. Over the discussion it became clear that diary intolerance could be a possible culprit. It also seemed that it would be very important to assess the reflexes for her digestive system.  The little baby girl’s feet were so tiny and she was not happy to be held by her mum or anyone. I began with some gentle soothing techniques. As her feet are so tiny, my thumb is almost as big as her whole foot!  It was fabulous to watch her little face turn to one of wonder. It was if she was saying “this is nice – what is it?”.  She passed wind almost immediately (!) and I carried  on the do a full assessment treatment.  The reflex points for her digestive tract were certainly in need of some TLC!  There was also a noticeable vulnerability in the sacral area of her spine. I worked steadily through the affected areas and her whole system to balance both her endocrine and energetic systems. I did some energy work to release any possible birth trauma. She seemed to love it and was totally relaxed and peaceful through out the session. Luckily her first “explosive nappy” happened at her home! Three days later I got an email to say that she has started smiling lots more and seemed much happier. She had been doing some good quality nappies that were getting better every day. She had become much more contented and so Mum wants me to pass on her message that “every baby should have this treatment!”

Testing the Water - is Self Employment for Me?

Testing the water – is self employment for me?

Just a quick entry as I have just heard that my fellow book writer Cathy Brown is going to be on  BBC Radio 4 today at 3pm on the Money Programme. She is advising callers with their questions about staring up in self employment or improving their situation if already in self employment.  Her book is available on Amazon or her website :- http://www.evolve.eu.com or from me at suericks@suericks.com

Cathy and I go away writing twice a year and focus on our books. I am delighted for her that her book is doing so well. It is great tool for anyone who wants to check out if self employment is for them or not.  It has a check list and what to do if you find that something needs addressing.

My book “Three Steps to Enjoying Life” is finding itself into all kinds or areas. I have heard that people have lent it to their friends and family, it is given out by a hair dresser to all her clients while they have their hair done. One man has left it in the garage repair shop while people wait for their cars!  I hoped it would be lent to clients and colleagues and now am delighted to hear that my purpose in writing it is working as it is being lent out to lots of people for a quick read. To read the positive health book review click here.

Cathy’s next book is about another specific are of working life and promotion and mine is about foot reading – two totally different subjects and written in the same glorious place in Derbyshire!

Dream Nights.

I have been asked what the dream nights are and realise that unless you have been or spoken to someone who has been, you may be wondering!  Well here goes!

Dream Nights are when we have an evening when we gather to get in touch with our wishes etc. Some people call them goals.  All you need to bring is a selection of magazines (to share) or photos of things that you would like or represents something that you like. Bring a pair of scissors and a sense of fun and wonder.  These nights help us to accelerate towards what we want. I will lead the evening and give the instructions on what to do. I will explain why it works and how to get the best out of the evening. As they say “a picture says a thousand words!”.  You will work on your own project and may choose to keep that to yourself or share it with the group before you take it home.  I have been running these for about ten years and they have been extremely popular and so it is now time to restart them again.  If you would like to come along, please email me suericks@suericks.com

The next Dream Nights will be 16th and 19th June (7.30 -9.30 in Loughborough Leics.)  £5 per person. Making dreams come true!

Are you doing what you love?  Do you love what you are doing?  There are some great books out there on the subject.  I am just re-reading the Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale.  It is a great book and quick and easy to read.  I love wrking with great people, eiether in person or via their teachings. I was on a course with Roger Hamilton last week and loved it. I met some amazing people who I know I will keep in touch with.  How great that when we all pull together we can make significant changes.

“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world” Buddha

“Things are only impossible until they are not” – Jean-Luc Picard – Star Trek!

Have you ever wanted to change something in your life and wished for it but then cancelled out the wish by going “oh well, it will never happen”?  When we all work as a “team” we bring out the best in each other.  When we all support and encourage each other to follow our dreams we bring about multiple opportunities.  Working together raises the collective energy and is also great fun.  So many great things can happen! The next “Dream nights” will be on 16th and 19th June.  If you would like to come along, please email me suericks@suericks.com . It will be held at Loughborough 7.30 – 9.30, £5 per person.

I also have a free offer for a workshop “The Secret of Success” with Mark Sharratt for anyone with access to

London

on either 9th July or 19th July. Click here for more information.

Keeping in mind what we love is so important.  Even my cousin reminded me tonight that it is so important for her family to keep remembering the concepts in my book “Three steps”.  Keep in mind what we love about our lives, ourselves and what we are doing etc.  Look for anything , however small. Even better, add a laugh or giggle!  I met up with Karen at the weekend and saw the great work she is doing in Gentle Touch Reflexology and especially with new Mum’s and babies. She trained here some years ago and now weaves her magic in

Peterborough

. We had a fabulous time together chatting, discussing and walking.  The laughs were constant around the chiminea and helped with some lovely red wine.  She has a lovely husband and also two gorgeous daughters (who proudly showed me their fabulous prom dresses), how lucky they are to have each other. They all pull together and love and support each other.  We even did some beer mat entrepreneur stuff and drew out the basic concept for a new product whilst cooking breakfast. What fun!

Article On Gentle Touch Reflexology - Positive Health Magazine Issue 67

Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™

By Sue Ricks

Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ is a subtle yet powerful technique of Reflexology.  It is an incredibly effective and delightful technique which allows the practitioner to work gently, although deeply with the client in all levels of life, i.e.  emotionally, physically and energetically.

Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ (GTR) is specifically a massage of the feet (or hands) which allows the unique lightness of touch to penetrate the reflex points that are located in the feet.  The feet and hands have reflex points located within, that reflect all areas of the body. Additionally the feet can indicate how the client is feeling and dealing with life.   Most people initially under-estimate the power of the subject, and it is not until the students are actually underway with their training that they realise the potential of the therapy.

What is Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™?

Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ is a method of aiding and assisting an individual to access their own healing potential via a specific massage of the feet (or hands).  It acts as a facilitator for their own healing ability and supports their own healing powers.  This is an important aspect to Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ as I believe that the power of the therapy is in the ability of the practitioner to use the natural energy flow to empower the client.  The reflex points for every area of the body are located in the feet or hands and are accessed via the various subtle energy pathways in the body.

There are many different techniques used in Reflexology.  There is evidence that Reflexology has been used for centuries, including the most notable example of Reflexology being used in the physician’s tomb in

Saqqara

Egypt

.

Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ is specifically a light and gentle touch which allows the client to relax in a supportive reclining chair and receive a delightful massage of the feet that does not hurt or cause  discomfort.

Traditionally Reflexology has used a firm pressure on the feet, whereas  Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™    is an advanced method of accessing the feet and energy field of the client while using the most minimal of touch.

Over the centuries practitioners of Reflexology have used a variety of pressures on the feet, from extremely hard or painful, to touch of a lighter nature   This is in direct relationship to the way in which we lived and worked.  In years gone by our lives demanded that our feet had to cope with hard surfaces, stone floors, cloth footwear and walking for miles.  In the modern era our feet are extremely cosseted areas of our body.  We wear shoes with effective and protective soles, in our homes we have smooth floors and carpets and people rarely spend much time bare foot.  Most people do not need to expose their feet to the kind of labours that caused their feet to develop deep protective layers of skin.  In view of the modern trend of living, and new vibrations of life in the 21st century, it is now becoming more appropriate to use a more subtle energy and touch which blends with the client’s needs.  GTR is such a soft, light and gentle touch that all areas of the mind, emotions, body and energy can be aided and assisted.

The development of Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™

My own experiences of Reflexology have led me to develop Gentle Touch of Reflexology ™ as a specified and recognised therapy.
